Frequently asked questions

Welcome to the FAQs for Letters from Rowendrey, your portal to a unique subscription experience crafted in Canada. Here’s everything you need to know about joining our community of readers and adventurers.

What kind of letters do subscribers receive, and what's unique about the content or experience?

Our subscription service offers a unique experience centered around physical, handwritten-style letters from the Recorder of Rowendrey. Each envelope contains a two-sided letter, usually including inserts such as tallies, notices, or maps drawn from Rowendrey itself. It's designed to feel like receiving an artifact, not just another piece of mail.

Where do you ship?

Letters depart from Canada and travel to subscribers in Canada, the United States, and other English-speaking countries worldwide.

How often do letters arrive?

Letters are sent biweekly (every two weeks). Each envelope contains a letter in the Recorder’s hand and includes inserts such as tallies, notices, or maps drawn from Rowendrey itself.

What size are the letters?

They arrive on parchment sheets, enclosed in matching envelopes, and sealed with wax. Each feels like an artifact, not an email or facsimile. Each mailing is written on letter-sized parchment (8.5 × 11 inches) with writing on both front and back. The length averages 425–525 words — enough to read in just a few minutes, though returning to search for puzzle clues may reveal more than first appears.

Who creates the letters and illustrations?

The letters are penned by W.O. Rowen, in character as the Recorder of Rowendrey. Illustrations, maps, and visual inserts are created by Miriam Melissa Ettedgui, whose skilled artistry brings Rowendrey into form.  Each illustration is a visual whisper from Rowendrey, meant to deepen the mystery, not just decorate.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes. You may cancel your subscription at any time. For monthly subscribers, cancellations take effect at the next billing cycle. Annual subscribers may cancel early, and the unused portion will be refunded on a prorated basis. See our [Subscription Terms] for details.

What if I join late?

During the Founders Window (open until November 30, 2025), new subscribers can receive the complete first six letters as physical mailings. If you join after the first mailing has already gone out, you can choose to receive the earlier letters at additional cost to complete your Founder’s set — but you are under no obligation to do so. You may simply begin with the letters that follow.

Once the quarter concludes, all past letters are summarized in an Archivist Report: an electronic crib note capturing that quarter’s puzzles and themes. These reports do not replace the experience of the physical letters, which remain exclusive to those who received them by post, but they ensure you will never feel lost no matter when you subscribe.

Can I buy past letters?
No. Physical letters are exclusive to subscribers at the time of mailing. After the Founders Window closes, past content is only available in Archivist Reports (electronic summaries, not full letters).

Are the letters truly handwritten?

They are crafted in a handwritten style, designed to look as though inked directly for you. They are printed on parchment and sealed, so every subscriber receives the same faithful artifact.

What if a letter is lost or damaged in the post?

Contact us at worowen@rowendrey.com — we will do our best to send a replacement.
